Delete Abandoned Accounts

Abandoned accounts pose a number of risks (optical, regulatory, and abusive) for platforms:

1. They are easier targets for account hijacking.
2. They reduce a platform's engagement statistics.
3. They are an active cost center - storage isn't free.
4. They are privacy risks (under GDPR)
5. They prevent users from utilizing the squatted resources they consume.

Cleaning up inactive accounts (deleting their data, and then freeing up the resources they consume, like usernames) is a good piece of hygiene that helps platforms mitigate long term risks like the above, but has to be done carefully to minimize risks of impersonation.
